Before and After: how a Feng Shui consultation changed how this family sleeps

A few years ago I was working on a home Feng Shui Consultation for a family who were experiencing a lack of sleep and connection. They hadn’t slept properly in years. I’m not talking just a few restless nights or the occasional bad dream. We're talking years of disrupted sleep, a child who was anxious and on edge, so much so they kept something under their bed at night (just in case someone came for them in the dark).

By the time families contact me, they usually have tried everything. When you've tried everything and nothing has worked, you start wondering if something else is going on.

That's usually when people find me.

What I found

When I assessed the home, I looked at the energy of every room (the orientation, the flow, the way energy moved through the spaces and where it got stuck or disrupted).

The childs bedroom had a problem; the energies in that room were not supportive for rest. Without going too deep into the technical side of Feng Shui, certain rooms carry certain energies depending on the direction they face, where they sit within the home's energy map, and what surrounds them. This room was working against them. The energy there was agitated, unsettled and exactly the kind of environment that keeps a nervous system on high alert, especially for a child who is sensitive to the energy around them.

Here is the thing most people don't realise: children are often far more sensitive to the energy of a space than adults. They haven't learned to override it yet. They just feel it, and they respond to it. In his case, that response looked like paranoia, intrusive thoughts or a bone-deep inability to feel safe enough to sleep.

The child wasn't making it up and they weren’t trying to be difficult. Their room was genuinely not a safe energetic environment for them to rest in.

What we did

There was another room in the house that wasn't being used as a main bedroom. When I assessed it, I could see immediately that the energies there were completely different (Calm, supportive and genuinely restorative). It was also one of my client’s childs best direction for sleep.

My recommendation was simple: move their bedroom.

That's it. We didn’t add crystals or do any rituals or use expensive remedies. We just moved the room and put their bed in a direction that was supportive.

What happened next

My client sent me a message months later. She said she they realised that night that their child hadn't come into their room in months. They were sleeping in their own bed, uninterrupted.

She wrote: "… has had very disrupted sleep for a few years and we have tried many different remedies and techniques. I realised tonight that they haven’t been sleeping in our room for a few months now, since we moved their room. They also are having deep, full, uninterrupted sleeps. This has been so beneficial for them and us as a family, creating more harmony in the home."

When a child sleeps, the whole family benefits and everything else becomes easier to deal with.

What this tells us about energy and sleep

I share this story not to suggest that every sleep problem has a Feng Shui solution. It doesn't.

If your child is struggling, please see your GP. Rule out everything medical first. Energy work is complementary to conventional care, not a replacement for it.

But I do share it because this family were out of ideas, and the thing that finally worked was looking at the energy of the space their son was sleeping in every night.

The room we sleep in matters more than most of us realise. We spend roughly a third of our lives in our bedrooms. The direction the room faces, where it sits within the home's energy map, what surrounds it, these things affect the quality of our rest in ways that are real and measurable, even if they're not always visible.

A bedroom should be the most energetically supportive room in the house but for this child, it wasn't.

If something in your home doesn't feel right for you, your children, or your family as a whole, I offer home Feng Shui consultations in person across Perth and online Australia-wide. Sometimes the answer is simpler than you think.
